Clearance on Jo Sharp Yarns!

Earlier this week, I received a surprising little email from the Jo Sharp company. Seems they have decided to stop distributing their yarns and patterns in the US effective immediately.

What does this mean? Well, as much as I love her yarns and designs, we can no longer carry the Jo Sharp line. As a result, we're putting ALL the Jo Sharp yarns on clearance to make room for something new. (No, I don't know what that is yet, but the possibilities are very exciting.)

This is your chance to snap up these great yarns at a huge discount.

Starting today, you'll find all the Jo Sharp yarns on clearance both in the shop and through the online store.

Enjoy!

More finished knits and something fun to do

There's been a flurry of finished projects visiting the shop lately.

In addition to her gorgeous pink Pioneer, Susan whipped up a market bag out of Euroflax linen.

IMG_7467IMG_7468

The pattern is free on ravelry.com: the Ilene Bag, and it only takes one skein of the Euroflax linen. And speaking of the linen, we have a new color in stock, Crabapple.

IMG_7466

Isn't it purty?

Jytte surprised me with this beautiful vest.

IMG_7463

She picked out the yarn just a week or two. It was a fun project to work on.  The yarns from the original pattern have been discontinued, so we searched through the shop to find substitutes that would provide a look as close to the pictured design as possible. And we did it!!! It is an amazing match.

After letting me snap a picture of the vest, she presented me with a new challenge. Another vest from the same booklet. Again we got to play with yarn combos. You know my favorite way to see how two different yarns will look together? Twist them together. Or, in the case of a ball and a skein, stick the ball through a loop of the skein so that the skein frames the ball.

Jytte is working on vest # 2 now and promises to bring in the results.

Anne stopped in with the sweater she just finished for her grandson.

 IMG_7462

Adorable, hun?

She also brought great pictures of her granddaughter wearing a lovely fair isle sweater. Unfortunately, my scanner refuses to get itself out of sleep mode, so I can't share those with you. They'll be on the wall of fame at the shop.

Finally, I'm very excited to tell you about a fun afternoon of knitting, art, music, and of course, food.

Keith and Adrienne are hosting a Picnic and Day of Festivities at Kieth's gallery, The Gallery at Schoolhouse Crossing, on Sunday May 31, from 2-6pm.

It promises to be a relaxing and entertaining afternoon! Feel free to RSVP to: K&A@keithspirophotography.com

More Pioneers

My Pioneer is blocked and I love it!  The deep V and cable details look great, and in the alpaca/silk, it is just heavenly against my skin.

IMG_7428IMG_7423

Barbara was looking stunning in her Pioneer on Saturday.

IMG_7450

And Kelsey was kind enough to model the Pioneer her mom (Hi Donna!) made for her.

IMG_7418IMG_7417

The yellow is just fabulous.  Have you ever noticed how hard it is to find a good shade of yellow? This one is absolutely perfect.

Susan hasn't modeled her gorgeous Pioneer for us yet, but she let Isabella (the shop dress form) show it off.

IMG_7446

IMG_7447

More Pioneers are on the way. Luanne and Peggy are at about the same point.

IMG_7434IMG_7435

Luanne is using Hempathy in natural, and Peggy's is in Spunky Eclectic Summer in Poppy.

And looky at the beautiful lace sweater Luanne just completed.

IMG_7419IMG_7420

The yarn? Spunky Eclectic Summer in the Iguana color.

We got a special visit from our friends in the Yarmouth knitting circle on Saturday.  Jenna was looking amazing in her recently completed Coraline knit in Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca and Silk.

IMG_7445

So what are we all knitting now?

Well, I always need a small portable project, and what could be happier than Swirly O Socks in Popsicle (Spunky Eclectic Tough Sock)?

IMG_7431

On the not-as-portable side of the knitting bag, I have the Drape Front Cardigan from Classic Elite Knits. The yarn? Euroflax Linen in Eggplant.

IMG_7441

Becka has caused quite an uproar by noticing the Featherweight Cardigan pattern. This airy and elegant summer top is designed out of laceweight or sock yarn on US 6 needles. Becka has already cast on and is using Malabrigo sock. For a more solid fabric, consider using a sportweight or dk yarn.  Hempathy would be a great choice for summer!

What are you knitting?

Last week, we attended the Maine Living with Cancer Conference sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Thanks to your wonderful response to our call for more Knitted Knockers we had overflowing baskets to bring with us. It was a huge success and I was thrilled to be able to hand out so many knockers to survivors and to spread the word to breast health centers throughout the state. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who knit knockers! As I mentioned in our last newsletter, the knitter who brought us the most knockers would receive a gift certificate and a bottle of Soak Wash.  I am so please to announce that Judy Warren is our winner!!! Congratulations Judy!

As you think about your warm weather knitting, don't forget to check out our class schedule. This is a great time of year to learn a new technique.  Keep an eye on the shop blog as well for updates on the new yarns and returning favorites that are arriving every week.

Happy Knitting and we'll see you at the sale!

Louet, Soak, and Goose Pond

All kinds of fun things arrived this past week.  Our shipment of Louet Euroflax Linen sportweight, and their Gems fingering sock were the first in the door.

IMG_7357

The linen is just incredible. I have my eye on a cardigan pattern to use with it, and Amanda has already started a market bag. As you know, linen is tremendously strong - making it perfect for those summer bags - but, once washed, it softens and becomes beautifully drapey - just what I need for that sweater!

IMG_7354

Gems is the famous Louet fingering merino. Ideal for socks and other fine gauge projects.

Speaking of socks... new colors of Ty Dy Sock yarn are here.

IMG_7375IMG_7376

Amy replenished our Spunky Eclectic Tough Sock.

IMG_7414

I'm having a hard time keeping this in stock, and I haven't even gotten a skein for myself yet! That might have to change today. I am at the toe of my second Ty Dy sock and I'm itching to cast on for a new pair.

IMG_7412

We had a fun surprise on Thursday when a well-known sock designer popped in to say hello.  Deb Barnhill and her family were vacationing in Maine, and she just HAD to see all the local yarn shops.  (Isn't that what everyone does when they travel? Thank goodness our families humor that little obsession.) Turns out, that she just happens to have designed one of my all time favorite sock patterns - Azure - and I had a shop model on display. Deb said that it was the first time she's seen one of her designs in the wild!

IMG_7353

Along with the Euroflax and Gems, UPS was kind enough to bring Soak Wash! The scents are heavenly.IMG_7362

A few days later we got a collection of Goose Pond jewelry for your knitting. These sterling silver beaded stitch markers and solid brass needle gauges are made right here in Maine.

IMG_7361

Thursday night I finally got to see Peggy's finished Tangled Yoke Cardigan. She used Silky Wool and it is stunning!

IMG_7366IMG_7367

IMG_7368

Cheryl completed the baby sweater out of Dream in Color Classy and whipped up a matching teddy bear.  Awww...IMG_7369

Diana impressed us all with another gorgeous shawl out of Spunky Eclectic lace merino.

IMG_7371

Peggy has cast on for a shawl out of Spunky as well.

IMG_7370

And Susan finished the body on her Pioneer.  Check out what she did with the hem.

IMG_7372IMG_7374

She used the cable pattern along the bottom.  It looks beautiful!

I wove in the last ends for my Pioneer yesterday.  If weather dries up a bit, I'll can actually block it.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day!

The Pioneers are underway!

Rolling, rolling, rolling! Hi ho!

Sorry, someone at KAN (or was it KISS?) started singing this song for our Pioneer KAL. Now it's stuck in my head and there's nothing I can do about it.

I am done!

Sort of.

Done with the knitting at least. Check it out.  I LOVE this sweater - fits me perfectly and the deep V in the front looks fabulous.

IMG_7337

IMG_7339

All I need to do now is weave in the ends, block it, and get someone at KAN (Bridget? Luanne?) to teach me the crochet stitch for the edging around the neckline.

I am getting better at my crocheting.  My approach to learning crochet has shifted. I realized I just wasn't that into playing around with various stitches or making a long scarf to teach myself.  Not sure why I even thought that would work for me.  I never teach someone to knit by having them swatch. My philosophy is that it is much more satisfying to work on a new technique on an actual project. Something tangible. Something that gives you the incentive to learn. Like a fabulous Pioneer top!

I did my first crochet picot edging on the now finished Brittany Jumper. Isn't it adorable?  3 skeins of Ty Dy Cotton for the size 2. I only used a little bit of the third skein, so you could definitely get a size 3 out of 3 skeins.

IMG_7334

Back to Pioneer.

Donna finished her lovely yellow version. I've been promised a photo op when her daughter (the lucky recipient) returns from college next week.

Barbara and I are at the same point. I insisted on photos even though it is technically unfinished.  Just look at how amazing it is on her!!!

IMG_7317IMG_7318

Susan is giving me a heart attack with her Pioneer.  She is using the most gorgeous hand dyed ribbon yarn from Tess's Designer Yarn in Portland.

IMG_7322

Can you see how the ribbon makes the cables pop? The color just shimmers and Susan's stitches are perfect! So what's the problem? She's torn it out about a zillion times as different design adjustments were made. Honestly, I DO understand. It needs to be right.  But, I see it one day in the shop, all lovely, and the next, I hear that she's ripped it again.  I never knew that knitting could be such a heart wrenching ordeal for the bystander.

Peggy is using Spunky Summer in Azalea for her Pioneer and is making great progress:

IMG_7324

Cheryl is knitting alongside us with Buttercup out of Hempathy.

Diane is also knitting alongside, but with the Drop-Stitch Tank from Fitted Knits.  She is on the back, and is using Spunky Summer in Cinnamon.

IMG_7315

Oh! And since I finished the Brittany Jumper, I got to add in a new project.  On the way out of the shop yesterday, I grabbed a ball of Ty Dy Sock in Meadow. I have been petting and craving this yarn since it arrived. It is unreal in the soft, squishy department.  O. M. G. To knit??? Heaven.  I'm a fast knitter, but look-

IMG_7342

That's how much I have knit on the first sock since 6pm yesterday. Unreal.

IMG_7343IMG_7344

Do you SEE the softness?

I ALSO (check me out with all the productivity) plied and set a skein of merino/tencel that I spun over the past few weeks. The colorway is Bruised Ego from Spunky Eclectic. This was a stash buster. Mom and Dad gave it to me for xmas two years ago.

IMG_7348IMG_7349IMG_7350IMG_7346

The tencel was so much fun to spin.  Unfortunately, this project made me realize that my stash busting has gone too far. The stash is frighteningly small. Thank goodness Fiber Frolic is a month away!

Spunky Summer in Variegated!

We got 2 colors of Spunky Eclectic Summer in variegated colorways:

IMG_7331IMG_7333

Meet Leaping Lizards (on the left) and Silt (on the right).

Amy also sent over the Color of the Month - Joshua Tree - in Tough Sock. It is 15% OFF for the month of May.

IMG_7316

Knitting Knockers

Knitters are awesome.  I ask for boobies, and I get boobies.

IMG_7306IMG_7307

Thanks to a little involuntary bed rest, I've even had time to whip up a few more myself.  A light green one is one the needles now.

IMG_7312

The Living With Cancer Conference is next Wed. Remember, any knockers you bring me before then will not only be greatly appreciated, but count towards our contest. The person making the most knockers during this booby drive wins a gift certificate and a bottle of Soak Wash!!

Thanks to everyone for your concern and good wishes over my recent downtime. I'm doing better each day, and while painful, it is nothing terribly serious. Seems I have some rogue scar tissue from a previous surgery that is intent on causing trouble.

Today was my first regular day back in the shop and I was greeted by 2 new colors in Noro Taiyo!! I love this yarn! It is Noro's heavy worsted cotton/silk blend.

IMG_7305

IMG_7301IMG_7302

Aren't they pretty? I have a sweater in Taiyo that just needs sleeves.

Actually, I have a lot of projects that just need _____ . Hmmm... time for a finishing spree. Best thing about a finishing spree? They always precede a starting spree!

Amanda just finished another scarf out of the Ocean Breezes book.  I've been eyeing this pattern as well. She used Summer from Spunky Eclectic. Isn't it gorgeous?

IMG_7309IMG_7311

Rumor has it that Lesley may be bringing me 3 more colors of Summer, along with the Color of the Month!!! I think those Summer colors are variegated. I asked Amy to create colorways that would go with the existing solids. I can't wait to see them!

Happy May!
