The Knitting Experience Blog Archive November 2005

Can you believe this rain??

Ok - it is 4pm and dark. That is just not right. When you combine the dark grey clouds with the sun setting earlier, it makes for a very dreary day. Just the kind of day that makes you want to stay home with your favorite knitting project!

For those who have not yet signed up for our email newsletter... big news went out today...

On Saturday, November 26, 2005 from 10am to 4pm, all of our in stock Classic Elite yarns will be 10% off!! That includes:
• Miracle – a gorgeous 50% alpaca, 50% tencel blend.
• Bam Boo – this amazing yarn is 100% bamboo and is hypoallergenic and retains antibacterial properties from the plant. (It makes great dishcloths for holiday presents).
• Lush – you won’t believe how incredibly soft this 50% angora, 50% wool yarn is! People have been snatching it up to make scarves.
• Princess – one of Classic Elite’s new luxury yarns with merino wool, cashmere, and angora.

Becka and I are excited to announce that we are introducing a new yarn line from Friends’ Folly Farm in Monmouth Maine. They showed us their hand-dyed fibers this past Saturday and they were amazing! You would not believe the colors, but beyond that, the fiber itself – 50% mohair/ 50% wool (yes, they also spin the yarn) – is incredibly soft. We already have their hat and sock kits in the shop, as well as their patterns for top-down roll neck pullovers. The yarns should be arriving in another week.

That's all the news for now. I hear snow may be on the way so it is definitely time to knit.

Finished projects!

Tonight's Knit at Night crew were showing off their finished projects. Teresa completed her gorgeous sweater tonight and graciously agreed to model it for the blog.
Andrea has been sporting her Hogwarts scarf around town. She wouldn't let us take her picture, but Amanda volunteered to model it along with her own Blue Sky Alpaca Bulky hat. How cool that they coordinate!

Too many projects?

Is it possible for a knitter to have too many projects going at once? And do you reach a certain point as a knitter when you must have a certain number of projects going at the same time or the world just seems out of balance? I finished Connor's scarf and despite the fact that I am currently working on a sweater, bag, hat, and socks, I found myself with a desperate need to start another project! So last night I stayed up to midnight and worked up half of a new scarf pattern for a man's scarf in Noro. I think I should be able to finish the scarf tonight - although I also need some sleep...

Harry Potter time!

The movie comes out this week - does everyone have their Hogwarts scarves ready? Many of you knitters have been coming in the shop to get yarn for scarves to wear to the movie and you inspired me to make a Gryffindor scarf for Connor:
I just finished it last night, but Connor wants me to put the Gryffindor lion on it - yikes! I'm not sure that will happen before the movie.

So, am I the only completely obsessed knitter out there who will keep knitting despite an injury to my hand? I crunched my hand on a door last night while chasing the boys around. it's all fun and giggles until Mommy gets hurt! Anyway, I was completely determined to finish Connor's scarf despite the black and blue lump on my thumb. i took some advil and finished the scarf. Today, however, my hand definitely hurts! The price we pay for knitting...

Meet Cassandra

Becka has finished the sample doll from Knitted Babes and we decided that she is so fabulous (cashmere lips!!) that she needed a fabulous name so meet Cassandra:

Isn't she lovely? Becka and I plan to have a lot of fun this winter creating her wardrobe.

We had a great time at the Early Bird sale. Becka, Peter and I all managed to be awake and ready for all the knitters at 6am! Here is a picture of Bec and I in our jammies.

We had a fantastic turnout and were completely exhausted at the end of the day! I think I slept for most of Sunday. But... we did have so much fun that Becka and I are tossing around ideas for other sales. Stay tuned and make sure you are on our email list so you know when they are going to happen.
