January in Maine always means knitting lots of warm woolen things. Must keep those heads, and hands, and toes warm and toasty.
But what about our little furry friends? Clearly some, like my dog, Tessa, don't need any help.

With the onset of cold weather, her fur has fluffed up to the point that she looks like a small bear lumbering around our house.
Smaller, less furry dogs sometimes need a little help. And if they are really lucky, their person is a knitter.
Becka and David adopted one such puppy this fall - the adorable - and tiny - Piper.

She needs an extra layer to help her ward off the chills. Luckily David is pretty skilled with those needles. He has whipped up a number of sweaters for her already, including the one pictured above out of Noro Kureyon. The pattern is The Dandy Dog Sweater from Fiber Trends.

Little Miss Piper is a beautiful model.

However, it isn't exactly easy to get a puppy to hold still for the camera.

This was her first modeling job. I'm thinking she was protesting the distinct lack of treats on the set. I'll have to look into that for next time.
